Farmers Meet organised

SRINAGAR, Sept 1: Directorate of ISM (Ayush), J&K Medicinal Plants Board organized a farmers meet at Directorate of Ayush Office, here for promotion of medicinal plants cultivation and to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatsov” in J&K.
The program was organized in collaboration with Regional Institute of Unani Medicine, Srinagar.
More than 100 farmers from different districts participated in the Program.
Director ISM (Ayush), J&K Dr Mohan Singh e-inaugurated the program. In his address, Dr Mohan Singh informed that J&K Medicinal Plants Board for which the Directorate of ISM (Ayush) has recently been nominated as Nodal Agency for implementation of programs under Medicinal Plants Sector has already identified 161 hectares of private land for cultivation of Medicinal Plants in J&K and the same has been submitted to Ministry of Ayush, Government of India for approval.
He informed that for promotion of medicinal plants sector, a marketing mandi, Model Nursery and seed germplasm centre are presently been established at Bhaderwah in District Doda. He assured the farmers of all assistance for cultivation, processing and marketing of medicinal plants.
Dr Sajad Ahmad Shuja, Assistant Director Directorate of Ayush, highlighted the importance of cultivation of medicinal plants in J&K.
Dr Tariq Ahmad, Senior Scientist/Taxanomist RRIUM, Srinagar provided training to the farmers in the demonstration herbal garden established in the premises of Directorate of ISM (Ayush), Bemina Srinagar. He provided useful information about the agrotechniques, yield and Marketing of some important Medicinal Plants. He further provided scientific data to farmers regarding the cultivation techniques of high commercial value Medicinal Plants.
Dr Wahid ul Hassan Tech Officer J&K Medicinal Plants Board, provided details on the cultivation schemes of National Medicinal Plants Board. He informed that the subsidies shall be provided to the farmers for cultivation and marketing of Medicinal Plants.
The program concluded with distribution of seeds and planting material to the farmers of some rare, and high commercial value medicinal plants.
