LEH, Mar 31: Agro Meteor-ological Field Unit (AMFU), SKUAST-K Leh organized one day farmers awareness programme under Grameen Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) at High Mountain Arid Agriculture Research Institute, SKUAST- Stakna today.
Chief Executive Councilor, Dr Sonam Dawa was the chief guest while Sonam Lotus, Director MC Srinagar was the guest of honour.
Addressing the occasion, Dr Dawa said that SKUAST is providing one platform for the stakeholders and scientists which has tremendously helped in sharing and exchanging knowledge and wisdom about newly invented methods and techniques in the growth of scientific agriculture. CEC made a special mention about the presentation on weather by Sonam Lotus, Director MC Srinagar saying that it is highly relevant and traditionally linked with the agricultural life of the people of Ladakh.
Agriculture should be a top most priority sector on LAHDC’s agenda, but this sector has been neglected so far despite of the fact that 90 per cent of Ladakh’s population entirely depends on agriculture, Dr Dawa said and added that we can’t achieve sustainable development if we further fail to give attention towards this sector.
Regarding the presentation of young local scientists, CEC expressed happiness that their scientists are doing well in their field and the outputs whatever they bring out from their study and researches would surely prove a boon in development of agriculture in Ladakh.
CEC strongly urged upon the farmers of Ladakh to take maximum advantage from this camp and make them fully conversant about all the agriculture methods and techniques and apply in the fields for multiplication of remunerative crops.
Associate Director, HMAARI spoke on the importance of holding this camp and informed more than 70 progressive farmers from the villages of Stakna, Thiksay and Ranbirpure participated in the camp.
Dr Jigmet Yangchan, Scientist presented power point presentation on water conservation in Ladakh while Dr Ajaz Malik presented on impact of climate change on vegetable cultivation of Leh and importance of weather forecasting. Similarly, Dr Vilas presented PPP on pest management through weather forecasting and lastly Dr Liyaqat gave PPP on extension strategies for transfer of Agro base advisories.
Ex-Associate Director, SKUAST, Dr Salim also spoke on the topic of advisory services.
In the end, Dr Namgyal, Program Coordinator, SKUAST presented vote of thanks.
