JAMMU, Apr 26: Disappointed over the alleged insensitive attitude of the State Government towards the genuine grievances and demands of the non-local students of NIT Srinagar, Forum for Awareness on National Security (FANS) has threatened to take the struggle at national level.
“If the Government does not concede demands of the NIT students, we will actively join them in highlighting their issue before the entire country,” said Golak Bihari Rai, national organizing secretary of the FANS, while addressing a press conference here today.
Mr Golak, along with national secretary and incharge Northern Region, Reshma H Singh and some national delegates of FANS, was here to take stock of the position vis-à-vis NIT row and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who allegedly refused to meet the delegation.
Pertinent to mention that FANS is associated with Sangh Parivar, the ideological mentor of ruling BJP.
“We wanted to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, who did not spare time for the same and thereafter we decided to convey the demands and issues of the NIT students to the Government through this press conference,” Golak Bihari said and demanded immediate suspension of Director and Registrar of NIT Srinagar, transfer of senior Police officers who were allegedly involved in brutal action against students, through probe into the incidents on NIT campus by a sitting judge of State High Court, personal and academic security of the students.
While expressing grave concern over the plight of non-Kashmiri students of NIT Srinagar, Reshma H Singh said that she personally talked to many of the students, who are still not finding the atmosphere of the campus safe enough to return and complete their respective courses.
She announced that FANS would mobilize public support throughout the country for the NIT students and will take their struggle to logical conclusion.
Meanwhile, the NSUI continued its protest in support of the demands of NIT-non-Kashmiri students and took out a march from Jammu University. Several Jammu students of NIT Srinagar also joined the NSUI activists.
After boycotting some classes in the Jammu University, the protesting NSUI activists and students took out a protest march on the campus and moved towards Bikram Chowk. Carrying placards, they raised slogans in support of the NIT students and against the HRD Ministry.
