Family alleges murder of their daughter over dowry

Srinagar, Jan 18: A family of Shelipora Achabal in South Kashmir’s Anantnag today alleged that their daughter was murdered by her in-laws over the issue of dowry.
In this connection, the family staged a protest, urging the police and higher-ups to ensure the culprits involved in the alleged murder daughter are brought to book.
“From time to time, we have been fulfilling their demands of dowry, but this time around, they ended up killing my daughter by poisoning her,” said Muhammad Yousuf Mir, father of the deceased woman.
The family said that the in-laws of their daughter fled from the hospital after she died. “They left the body thereafter she died instead and didn’t take her for last rites,” the family alleged.
The protesters demanded strict action against those involved and urged the police to act swiftly so that the culprits are brought to book immediately.
In this regard, the police have said the 30-year-old woman was brought dead to the hospital while the preliminary medical report suggests cardiac arrest is a cause of death.
