This is in reference to the write up (Fall of Gilgit) by Col. J.P. Singh (Retd.) which appeared in your daily on 14th Aug, 2015.The writer has not been informed correctly about survivors of the Skardu garrison. It is not factually correct that only late Brig. Sher Jung Thapa and his orderly were taken as prisoners of war.
The fact is that my father late Major Ajit Singh (VrC) was among those soldiers who defended the Skardu fort till the ammunition lasted. He was second lieutenant at that time and was awarded the Vir Chakra gallantry award for his bravery in the battle of Skardu. He was also one of the prisoners of war and was released from the prison after almost one and a half years.
