JAMMU : Police today busted a fake SIM racket and arrested a card vendor in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“On specific information, Police this morning raided a shop namely Waqar Cosmetic Store at Saj Thanamandi and arrested one Waqar Ahmed Bhatti, resident of Saj Thanamandi,” official spokesman here said. He said during the search, number of SIMs, two stamps of J&K Bank, Behrote, details of SIM issued on fake Identity Proof, two Mobile phones and a Computer were seized on spot from the shop.
“During preliminary investigation, the accused disclosed that he has sold thousands of SIMs on fake ID proof on higher prices to unknown persons,” the spokesman said. “We have registered a case under relevant sections and further investigation are on to find out whether accused was selling these SIMs only for monitory benefits or he has sold these to some anti-national or anti-social elements,” SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi said.
He added that the role of Service Providers, the recipients of these SIM cards and their subsequent use would be probed thoroughly.
