KISHTWAR, Feb 23: Acting over complaint from several Government officials, Chhatroo police arrested a fake journalist along with microphone, logo and forged identity cards of a reputed TV channel.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary while interacting with media persons here today.
He informed that police received reliable information that a person identified as Rangeel Kumar, son of Mohan Lal of Dangger Nallah Chingam, Tehsil Chhatroo is moving in various areas of the district along with microphone, logo of a reputed TV channel and an identity card of the said channel and is approaching and threatening the Government officials of different departments like CAPD, RDD, PHE and others to file press reports of embezzlements and misappropriation against them if they fail to pay him the desired money.
Acting over the information, a case under FIR Number 7/18 under Sections 419, 467, 468 and 471 RPC was registered at Police Station Chhatroo and arrested the accused.
“Police contacted the management of TV channel and after enquiry it was found that there was no reporter or journalist of the channel with this name and particulars in district Kishtwar. The management of the channel submitted in writing denying having of any such reporter in this district”, SSP stated, adding that during the course of investigation, police has recovered a microphone, logo of the reputed TV channel, forged identity card of press alongwith fake stamps.
“During further investigation, it came to fore that the accused was extorting and terrorizing the people for the past five months. A number of persons have been identified from whom the accused has looted money in the name of press and media. It has been revealed that the accused was trying to contact the power project authorities by taking along with him the leaders of worker unions to blackmail the authorities and mint money from them”, SSP stated.
