Having failed miserably in J&K, BJP ran away from responsibility: Azad, Soni

JAMMU, June 20: While cautioning the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to correct his flawed approach, the  Congress leadership today said that having failed miserably and pushing the J&K State towards darkness, the BJP has ran away from its responsibility.
In a joint press statement here today, AICC general secretary and in-charge J&K affairs of the party, Ambika Soni, former Union Minister and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC chief GA Mir today alleged that  BJP has virtually escaped from its responsibility after pulling out of the Government with PDP, as it stood worst failure and non-performing liability for the people of the State.   “The BJP-PDP alliance has plunged J&K state into the era of darkness by the rank political opportunism and lust of power.  Their coming together will be recorded in the history as a saga of greed of power, utter deception  and sheer betrayal of the aspirations of the people of J&K state,” they said.
“The BJP cannot shun and run away from owning its responsibility for creating this mess and backstabbing the people of the State. The tall talks of packages and development  have evaporated in thin air. Being a national party, it was the BJP’s responsibility to engage and build a trust with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and establish a roadmap for societal inclusion and development of all its three regions. But it completely failed which was evident by the lowest ever voter turnout of 7% in the Srinagar (Lok Sabha) by-poll. It is extremely painful that the Election Commission of India was forced to cancel a Lok Sabha by-poll (Anantnag) as Modi Government refused to deploy extra troops for ensuring a free  and fair election,” they added.
The Congress leaders further alleged that the directionless, agenda-less and clueless policy of the Modi Government has left the people of Jammu and Kashmir in complete despair. They said the Congress  is extremely concerned and pained by the developments in J&K state. They caution the Modi Government to correct its flawed approach and work for rebuilding the trust and restoration of normalcy in the State.
They said it is plain truth that in November 2014, Narendra Modi campaigned extensively against the PDP and the PDP leadership campaigned against the BJP. Both pleased their constituencies by political name calling and had sought mandate against each other. Both used J&K  as bogeys to attain power and later shedding their entire pretense, signed a ‘Faustian deal’ which was guided by ‘self-interests’ above ‘National interest’.
Jammu and Kashmir had benefitted for years from the relative peace and normalcy resulting from focused and sustained attention from the then Congress- UPA Government, that had ensured development of infrastructure, promotion of tourism, generation of employment and above all creation of mutual trust. The BJP, in its pursuit of power and political opportunism, in the past three years, disrupted the ongoing constructive engagement with the people of the state and has imperiled the security situation, setting the state of J&K on a fire of anarchy, radicalization, mal-governance and corruption.
“It is a relief that the opportunistic coalition has collapsed. The BJP has floundered to protect borders. Rising cross border infiltration, a six fold increase in daily ceasefire violations along the LoC and International Border, besides displacement of thousands of people, unprecedented terror attacks on our security installations,  killing of our jawans and civilians, rising incidents of stone pelting, radicalization of youth and burning of schools, raising of Pak-ISIS flags, have marred the years of the BJP-PDP Government.”
Raising pointed question, they asked how does Prime Minister, Modi propose to ensure peace and normalcy in the state?  When will the ceasefire violations by Pakistan and terror attacks on our soil stop?   What is the economic roadmap for inclusion and progress for the people of J&K?  How does the Central Government propose to prevent the radicalization of J&K’s youth?   What are the plans for employment creation and promotion of tourism in the state of J&K?  How does the Modi Govt propose to engage with various sections of the state in order to win their hearts and minds?   How does it plan to ensure peace and development in all the three regions of the state?
They said the people of India and Congress, shall be watching very closely BJP’s actions and the forthcoming developments in the State and shall never forgive nor forget how the BJP Govt is responsible for pushing J&K into complete darkness.
