SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today conducted the test run of the prestigious ropeway project constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore at Rainawari, Makhdoom Sahib, Srinagar.
Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism and Culture Atul Duloo, Managing Director Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation, Tufail Matoo, and other senior officers of Waqaf Board, Forests, R&B, and allied departments were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the project would go a long way in promoting tourism in the old city besides, providing an alternative mode of transportation to the pilgrims coming to pay obeisance at the revered shrine of Hazrat Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom Sahib (RA).
The Minister directed the concerned officers to speed up work on the craft centre being created there, so that the area comes up as a major tourist attraction in the old city Srinagar. He said that it would go a long way in boosting the tourism related activities which would in turn increase the economic activity and provide the much needed job opportunities to the people of the area.
The Minister later inspected the pace of work on the proposed shopping complex for the shopkeepers whose shops have been acquired while widening of the Syed Mirakh Shah Road project at Rainawari and directed the officers to ensure that it is completed within the shortest possible time.
Mr. Sagar also inspected the work being done on the community centre, marriage hall at Daulatabad, Koolipora, Khanyar and directed the concerned departments to speed up the work, so that they are completed within the stipulated time for the general convenience of the people living in the area and its catchments.
The Minister also visited Miskeenbagh area and inspected the work being carried out on the connecting bridges being constructed by LAWDA for ensuring the connectivity of the area.
