The explosive material had been kept on slab meant for keeping luggage of the passengers inside the bus, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli told the Excelsior.
He said the seized material include wire, detonators and explosives, concealed in a box, which hadn’t been assembled.
“The explosives were to be assembled for making it an IED,” Kohli said.
Two brothers from Bijarni Bhagwah in Doda district travelling in the bus have been detained for questioning.
A joint team of Jhajjar Kotli Police Station headed by SHO Inspector Vikram Sharma under the supervision of SP Rural Sanjay Sharma made the seizures.
Sources said there was specific input of Jammu Police and Military Intelligence that explosives were being smuggled in a bus from Doda to Jammu.
A joint naka was laid by police at Soketar Morh under the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli Police Station which intercepted the bus and seized explosive material this morning.
The explosives were defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad.
The material was unassembled which indicated that target of the militants wasn’t the passenger bus in which explosives were being smuggled.
“It seems someone had to take consignment at Jammu and explosives were to be used for targeting Shri Amarnath Ji yatra vehicle,” sources said, adding that a major tragedy has been averted with seizure of explosive material.
On detention of two brothers, sources said they are being questioned to ascertain who kept the explosives in the bus but preliminary investigations showed they were not aware of the material.
CCTV footage from where the bus took off in Doda is also being scrutinized to trace the suspects, sources said.
