Expired glucose for “’treating” patients?

The adage “Savdhani hatti aur durghatna ghatti” which tells us never to take liberties with safety and security measures, when taken casually rebounds very unpleasantly. How did expired glucose bottles reach District Hospital Kishtwar and several patients who were about to be administered such stuff were saved by some vigilant attendants of the patients . Had it been otherwise, possibility of a tragedy could not have been averted. Attendants, as a natural corollary fearing for their nears and dears admitted in the Hospital getting upset, have demanded action to be taken against those responsible for putting the lives of the patients at great jeopardy.
Recently, the Lieutenant Governor, while reviewing the functioning of the Health and Medical Education Department has directed all hospitals to maintain inventory of hospital medicines and equipment which is quite necessary as normal verification and checking would reveal about such discard-able stuff . We have learnt that even in past also in many instances, expired glucose bottles have been even used in this hospital. However, an inquiry has been ordered into the incident even though fortunately, no one was administered the expired stuff but it must be known as to how expired bottles reach the hospital.
