JAMMU, May 11: The Press Club of Jammu and Journalists from across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday remembered senior photojournalist Ashok Sodhi on his 13th death anniversary.
Sodhi sacrificed his life while performing professional duties during an encounter in 2008 at Kaili Mandi in Samba.
Ashok Sodhi-was a photojournalist with Daily Excelsior.
Excelsior Management and staff also held meeting to pay tributes to Ashok Sodhi, who laid down his life while covering the encounter at Samba this day in 2008.
As per the handout issued here, Press Club of Jammu and the journalists representing different media houses from parts of Jammu and Kashmir, remembered him and paid tributes.
However, due to COVID pandemic, the homage paying function could not be held but the PCJ management and fraternity members, remembered Sodhi on his death anniversary.
The journalists remembered their days with late Sodhi and termed him as a professional man.
They also missed him as person especially in this COVID pandemic as he was always ready to extend helping hand in such situations.
Many journalists remembered Sodhi and shared the moments they had lived together as professionals and Friends. They termed him a lively man.
Remembering Sodhi, Journalists asked fellowmen especially the photojournalists to stay safe and prioritise their safety when performing duties especially at this juncture when the whole world is fighting against Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress committee has paid rich tributes to the veteran photo journalist Ashok Sodhi on his martyrdom day today.
JKPCC Chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma remembered Ashok Sodhi, who was committed and devoted to his profession and was a daredevil.
Sharma recalled his long association with Sodhi and said that his services to the profession and nation would always be remembered. He sacrificed his life for the sake of nation when he fell victim to the bullets covering a terrorist encounter.
Sharma saluted his bravery and paid rich tributes to him.
The Print and Electronic Media Association also remembered Ashok Sodhi, who had sacrificed his life this day in 2008.
The Association organized a tribute paying function at Jammu while maintaining social distancing norms and other SOP.
Remembering contribution of Sodhi towards the field of journalism, President of the Association, Afzal Shah said that by sacrificing his life in the line of duty, the former had inspired juniors to never compromise with their work. Afzal Shah also demanded a financial package for the working and accredited journalists similar to that had been provided to the frontline warriors by the J&K Government in view of Coronavirus lockdown in J&K.
Those who paid their tributes on the occasion, included Vishal Sharma, Atul Gupta, Surjeet Singh, Raman Raina, Shilpa Thakur, Jagjit Kumar , Rakesh Bakshi,Sudhir Kumar, Sham Sunder, Ashok Baru, Sonu Karlupia, Pardeep Bakshi, Tilak Mehra, Sahil Sanjay Gupta, Ravinder Singh , Richa, Naresh Bhagat Inderjit Singh, Ashok Anand, Danish Iqbal , Lekh Raj and others.
