Ex-Prez Pratibha Patil’s husband Devi Singh Shekhawat passes away

PUNE, Feb 24: Former President Pratibha Patil’s husband Devi Singh Shekhawat passed away in Pune on Friday morning.
He was 88 years old and is survived by his wife and son Rajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Family sources said Shekhawat collapsed outside the lawn of his house in Pune on February 12 in the morning. He underwent surgery, but later died due to several other complications including high blood pressure and kidney failure.
He breathed his last at 9:30 am, said family sources. Devi Singh Shekhawat was the husband of Pratibha Patil, the first woman president of India.
He was being treated at KEM Hospital in Pune form long time. His last rites will be held today at 6 pm in Pune. Devi Singh Shekhawat and Pratibha Patil were married on 7 July 1965. Apart from being Mayor of Amravati, Devi Singh Shekhawat was also elected MLA from there.
Devi Singh Shekhawat has also been very active in the world of education. He did his PhD from Mumbai University in 1972. Devi Singh was the principal of a college run by the Vidya Bharti Shikshak Sanstha Foundation and later he was elected MLA from Amravati in 1985. (UNI)
