JAMMU, Oct 20: Veteran Congress leader and former MP, Madan Lal Sharma demanded compensation for farmers who lost their crops in the recent rains in Jammu division.
In a press statement Mr Sharma said that small and marginal farmers are hand to mouth due to untimely loss to their crops. He demanded that their loss should be assessed on priority basis so that timely and adequate compensation can be given to them. He cautioned the Government not to make mockery as last year farmers had been given compensation cheques from Rs 40 to Rs 100 in many villages of Jammu division.
Ex- MP condemned the policies of State and Central Government and alleged that none of them is serious about the issues of farmers who are facing neglect by present regime. Mr Sharma alleged that this is the third crop loss but no compensation is paid for even first two losses. He appealed the Chief Minister to personally intervene into the matter.
