JAMMU, Dec 24: Former MLA Billawar Dr Manohar Lal Sharma strongly lamented the Govt for its brazen disregard for the issues of agitating National Health Mission employees, MGNREGA workers and contractual lecturer besides others who were protesting on the streets for their most genuine demands of regularization of services.
In a press statement here, Ex-MLA said that prolonged strikes by a range of sections of temporary employees had disillusioned the Govt employee relations in the State. He said that the issuance of threats and use of the police against the workforce was the solution to the long imminent issue as it would only lead to turbulence in the State.
He termed the delay and denial of the issue as exploitative and said that it would have to evolve a suitable job policy to commensurate with its oft repeated slogans and thereby, assuring them job opportunities and hence providing them sustainable livelihood. He said that the employees were made to work like bonded laborers on negligible honorarium despite repeated Govt assurances of pay parity with their counterparts in the regular establishments.
Expressing anguish over the abuse of the young fraternity in the State, he said thousands of youth have fled to other states for jobs and several thousand under-employed as casual and need based workers in various departments.
Dr Sharma said that the even the Supreme Court in its latest judgment delivered has pointed out that the denying equal pay for equal work to temporary employees was oppressive, suppressive and coercive as it compelled involuntary subjugation, as the State Govt is paying lesser wages to NHM, MG-NREGA, education employees against their regular counterparts was not only discriminatory, but also violative of constitutional guarantees.
