RAMBAN, Sept 1: Former legislature from Ramban Ashok Kumar has expressed serious concerns over the frequent road accidents on National Highway-44 between Banihal and Nashri Tunnel (Ramban).
In a statement issued here Ex-MLA conveyed grief and sorrow to the affected families who have lost their dear ones in recent road accident at Mehar (Ramban) where a passenger vehicle carrying 8 persons feared drowned into river Chenab as the passenger cab skidded at Mehar landslide area on NH-44″.
Ashok has demanded that Rs 50 lakhs ex-gratia relief to each affected family who have lost their dear ones in recent road accident at Mehar near Ramban.
Ex-MLA said that strong crash barriers should be installed on all the hot spots/ danger zones and also along the Chenab river on National Highway-44 from Nashri Tunnel to Banihal as most of the danger zones without crash barriers are highly proned to dangerous accidents. He said that landslide/ debris should be removed immediately on the entire stretch from Nashri to Banihal.
He strongly stressed that immediately two-lane black topping should be completed on war footing basis for smooth movement of bulk traffic without any interruption. The long traffic jams and slow movement of vehicles in this belt has become headache for the locals of the area and also the road users.
Ashok demanded that there should be recreational parks after every 40 Kms on NH-44 for well being of daily passenger drivers and their helpers. He also stressed upon the traffic police to monitor, guide and provide psychological training to passenger drivers through various workshops for avoiding accidents.
He strongly stressed upon the Ministry of Road and Transport Authority, GOI and other concerned authorities to take immediate measures for early completion of 4- Lane National Highway Project and provide all safety measures like crash barriers and others for smooth of movement of day to day traffic.
