JAMMU, May 5: Ashok Kumar, former MLA from Ramban and a senior Congress leader has strongly urged upon the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to establish Pediatric COVID Care wards in every district of Jammu and Kashmir in advance as few viral infections have been seen in infants and children below 12 years.
In addition, beds for mothers should also be provided to children who will be undergoing treatment in Pediatric Covid Care wards. It is the duty of Government to take better measures in advance to mitigate against the such virus rather than blaming virus.
Ashok further said that the experts have already warned that the third wave is likely to hit children. Third wave could be more dangerous for children up to 18 years of age. It also becomes the duty of Government to vaccinate this group as it consists 20-30 per cent of population in India, then only we can develop herd immunity, he said.
Ex-MLA also stressed upon the Government to Jammu and Kashmir to increase the number of Oxygen beds in both rural and urban hospitals across the Union Territory. He said Government must ensure all the safety measures for COVID. He said Union Territories are governed by Centre thus, it should be self sufficient in terms of availability of Oxygen beds, essential Medical supplies, life saving drugs and COVID-19 vaccines.
Congress leader said, if Jammu and Kashmir hit by third wave in July or August, without proper mitigation and unpreparedness, it would become a disaster and difficult challenge before UT Administration and citizens. The strict lockdown at this juncture should be imposed. The financial packages should be provided to unorganised workers, drivers and small vendors, he added.
