Ex-BDC Chairman held with heroin

RAJOURI, June 21: A former Chairman of Block Development Council and Ex Sarpanch was apprehended in Lamberi for smuggling narcotics as heroin like substance was recovered from his possession.
A police party from Police Post Lamberi, led by SHO, Inspector Arjun Magotra and under the supervision of SDPO Nowshera, Sahil Mahajan, laid a special naka at Bagnoti near Radha Swami Ashram and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK02DL-7776, which was on its way from Lamberi towards Bagnoti.
Upon questioning, the accused identified himself as Vikas Kumar Sharma, son of Darshan Kumar Sharma, resident of Thill Hakima Rajal B, Tehsil Nowshera, who is a former BDC Chairman and Ex-Sarpanch
During a personal search, approximately 10 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a formal case has been registered at Police Station Nowshera under FIR No. 80/2025, U/S 8/21/22/25 of the NDPS Act.
According to Police, the accused has a history of involvement in criminal cases and several FIRs, including FIR No. 137/2006 – U/S 294 RPC; FIR No. 116/2017 – U/S 341/188 RPC and FIR No. 118/2020 – U/S 341/188/147/270/ 269 IPC already stand registered against him.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify any possible links to a broader drug trafficking network.
