EWS 10% reservation in Ladakh

For the first time since its formation as a Union Territory, Ladakh is addressing its requirements of civil posts and services , the deficiency of which it has been feeling ever since and even on the other hand the demand to fill the vacancies and go in for direct recruitment was long pending . In this connection, since Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) have to be given 10 per cent reservation in such civil posts and services, the UT Administration has come out with memorandum for such direct recruitment. Those sections belonging to EWS not otherwise covered under usual schemes of reservations including falling under belonging to Actual Line of Control category have been identified to get 10 per cent reservation. Like this, in its first exercise of direct recruitment , the EWS would get entitled reservation but with a family income of Rs.8 lakh per annum from all sources including from agriculture, business, salary etc.
In other words, it denotes that value and returns from other assets, the benchmark of which is prescribed too, would be computed for purposes of arriving at total annual income per family. Possessing five acres of land or above , similarly residential plot of 100 and 200 square yards in municipal and other areas respectively shall not be treated as falling under the EWS category for recruitment in Government services. That there was full transparency in the exercise , an applicant had mandatorily to produce an income and assets certificate verified from a competent authority. However, the process must be simplified so that the aspirants do not feel unnecessarily to undergo avoidable difficulties in arranging verification of details of eligibility.
