JAMMU, Mar 31: 22nd Police Public Mela was held at Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground here this morning. Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad inaugurated the day long Mela.
Amid great enthusiasm, after lighting the traditional lamp, the chief guest described the event as a bridge between police and public, saying that such events provide an opportunity to the people and the police to assemble and interact with each other.
Prasad disclosed that the event also provides an opportunity to memories the sacrifices of jawans and officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police, they offered while ensuring the security and safety of the people.
During the Mela 40 stalls were established by different police units and products of different regions of the State were put for sale to the public. People from all shades of life showed their keen interest in purchase of these items and the children enjoyed the amusement items during the day long Mela. Painting competition for the children was also conducted in the Mela and prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition. Cultural groups presented different items which were enjoyed by the people. Tambola was also the main attraction for the people in the Mela.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the Mela, the DGP disclosed that the receipts realized from the raffle draw tickets are utilized for the fabulous prizes which include cars and other electronic items of different makes. He said that the receipts are also utilized for the welfare of families of police martyrs.
Prasad said that such occasions serve as a bridge and strengthen police public relations. “The Melas not only boost the morale of ranks of the force but also provides an avenue where the officers and jawans interact,” he added.
Earlier, the Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Police Parivar, Kiran Prasad, briefed about the objectives for organizing such Melas. She said that JKPWWA has undertaken various fund raising activities to fulfil and nurture the requirements for the welfare of police families with special emphasizes on widows and orphans. She disclosed that the Association has been providing vocational training to families of policemen in order to provide support to manufacture and market the products through police families welfare centres till district level. The efforts have helped to augment the income of these families, she added.
In the evening, results of raffle draw for prizes were announced. The draw was held in the presence of large gathering of men, women and children.
Small children drawn from the gathering picked the lucky numbers for prizes of different categories in presence of Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad, Chairperson, J&K Police Wives Welfare Association, Kiran Prasad, senior police officers and lady members of police parivar.
The first prize five Santro cars were won by raffle draw ticket numbers A-43230, B-31705, C-15475, D-57093 and E-30382, 2nd prize five Alto cars-800 were bagged by ticket number A-22199, B-17141, C-34753, D-03957 and E-42207. The 3rd prize five Nano cars were won by ticket number A-86801, B-53642, C-18749, D-70265 and E-52377. 4th prize five Motor Cycles won by A-34868, B-73475, C-52286, D-80155 and E-55337.
Similarly the 5th prize five Scooties went to raffle draw ticket numbers A-93828, B-03854, C-84351, D-31356 and E-09878. The 6th prize five Laptop Computers goes to ticket numbers A-50671, B- 53311, C-36604, D-15348 and E-98155. The 7th prize five LCD TVs goes to ticket numbers A-88572, B-21271, C-02668, D-19709 and E-46816. The 8th prize five Tab won by ticket numbers A-10056, B-87554, C-23770, D-10984 and E-49719. The 9th prize five AC.75 were bagged by ticket numbers A-85183, B-56630, C-12374, D-90832 and E-96663. The 10th prize five Washing Machine were bagged by ticket numbers A-35001, B-28110, C-04293, D-95226 and E-78795.
The 11th Prize, five Rice Cooker goes to tickets Nos: A-47625, B-59490, C-43984, D-20169 and E-79758.
Accordingly 50 Cash prizes of Rs. 1,000 each goes to tickets with their last four digits 7757. Likewise 500 cash prizes of Rs.500 goes to tickets having last three digits 229 and the 5000 cash prizes of Rs.200 goes to tickets having last two digits 38.
The Special Bumper Prize which includes one Nissan Micra has been bagged by ticket No. A-38635.
