JAMMU, Sept 27: The irrational process adopted by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Planning Development and Monitoring Department of engaging new recruits has become a reason of frustration and anxiety among the selected Junior Assistants.
Over 40 candidates, who were selected as the Junior Assistants after following proper and lengthy process of Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) recruitment, were to be engaged by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Planning Development and Monitoring Department but have been left in the lurch due to delay tactics adopted by the said department in issuing the appointment orders.
Pertinent to mention here that JKSSB conducted the drive for filling 1534 different posts of Junior Assistants and in February 2023 it issued a final list of the candidates selected for the posts of Junior Assistant/ Cashier/ Clerk/ Store Attendant/ Cadrex Clerk/ Computer-cum-Junior Assistant in various Departments.
In this regard, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Planning Development and Monitoring Department also asked the selected candidates to submit their documents for CID verification and other testimonial verifications but despite passage of nearly seven months nothing has been done in the favour of these selected candidates.
“When most of the candidates have been engaged as the Junior Assistants by various departments, we still are wandering here and there to get our appointment letters which are to be issued by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Planning Development and Monitoring Department,” told Azhar Wani, one of the aggrieved candidates to the Excelsior.
“Most of the selected Junior Assistants have joined their duties in various departments but an excessive wait to get the appointment order through this department has left us despondent. Despite, we have followed the entire procedure and also were the toppers among all these selected candidates, but still there is no end to our woes,” he added.
“There is something fishy about the whole issue,” alleged Ambika Gupta, another candidate, adding that the Director General, Satvir Kour Sudan, who is heading this department is delaying our appointment for the reasons best known to her.”
“When the posts of Junior Assistants, which were vacant in the other departments were filled on time, what is the problem with this department, why they are harassing us mentally by adopting delaying tactics in issuing appointment letters in favour of selected candidates?”, she asked.
“When the Economics and Statistics department is going to engage us in this department and what is the reason behind delaying our appointments?”, she further asked.
When contacted DG Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Planning Development and Monitoring Department Satvir Kour Sudan told the Excelsior that the issue of appointment of the new Junior Assistants in the department has been discussed with the Planning Department and in this regard they have sent a proposal for their appointments to GAD. Since this is a time consuming process, it will take some more time to settle their issue, she added.
“I have advised the aspiring candidates to wait for some more time as their issue is in pipeline and we are hopeful that it should be resolved soon and they will get their appointment letters through our department as early as possible. Till then they have to bear with us, we are also concerned about their appointments in our department as the Junior Assistants,” she maintained.
