Evaluation process

Sir,
It is heartening to read that CBSE has set up two panels comprising senior officers to study loopholes in evaluation process. (DE, June 21, 2017).While one of the panels has been tasked to ‘enquire into the process of evaluation and post examination processes to identify and analyse discrepencies and suggest corrective measures to strengthen the process’, the other panel will’study, analyse and suggest systemic improvements in the evaluation process to make the process robust’.T hough the CBSE said that it had received requests for verification of marks from only 2.47 percent of the students, the process of evaluation ought to be reliable and  foolproof . So far the evaluation of exams conducted by JKBOSE is concerned, generally  many candidates who appear in JKBOSE, exams, being dissatisfied with the process of evaluation, go in for reevaluation of their answer scripts and in some cases, there is much difference between the marks awarded before and after reevaluation. Therefore, the need of the hour is to bring reforms in the system of examination and conduct orientation for the evaluators in order to make the process of evaluation, more transparent, less subjective and more objective and to ensure that the candidates donot suffer for no fault of theirs.
Moreover, question papers in the academic and professional examinations should be set in such a manner that the students do not find ambiguity in giving answers such as more than one answer to the same question. Not only this, sometimes, there are printing mistakes in the Question Papers, especially in academic examinations and printing mistakes particularly in language papers can lead to confusion in the minds of students. All these loopholes need to be plugged so that the question paper assesses the real knowledge  and higher order skills such as reasoning, analysis  etc. possessed by candidates about the particular subject.
Yours etc…..
