Establishing Truth

Swami Ram Swarup, Yogacharya
In the beginning of every earth, God, as our father, preaches the knowledge of Vedas for the benefit of human-beings and achievement of knowledge by them. It is a fundamental law that until the knowledge is given by someone, it can’t be achieved by the other. In the beginning of the creation, all human-beings are ignorant. At that time, no learned person exists to preach knowledge. That is why, it is a basic principle of the creation that at that time, only Almighty God preaches the knowledge in the shape of four Vedas, as quoted above.
Vedas contain unlimited knowledge, right from straw to Almighty God. Innumerable matters of universe like sun, moon, stars, earth, air, water, food grains, oceans, coal, gases, oil, metals, worship, form of deeds, including prakriti, God, souls, human-body etc. have been made known to human-beings by God through Vedas. Uptil Mahabharat war, people only followed Vedas because at that time, there was no other religious book to be followed.
Therefore, all human-beings enjoyed long, happy life. Secondly, in previous yugas, several Rishi-Munis, Tapasvis, who knew eternal knowledge of Vedas, true form of religious and irreligious deeds, spoke only truth; used to preach truth to public, based on which public only followed true path and not untrue path, as is being oftenly followed nowadays.
Our vedic culture states that those ancient Rishis have also written several Sanskrit granths like Nighantu, Nirukta etc. to make people understand vedic knowledge easily, so as to destroy illusion. But to our bad luck, traditional knowledge of Vedas and Granths of Rishis have been ignored nowadays and hence illusion.
Patanjali Rishi according to Yog Shastra sutra 1/7 has preached about “Aagam evidence” – that to establish truth, ved mantras in support of any views or book are required. If those views/book donot tally with ved mantras, automatically they are false.
According to Nyaye Shastra sutra 1/1/40 written by Gautam Rishi- “discussion/exchange of views required to reach at truth is called Tark”.
Keeping in view the above, if exchange of views based on Vedas, is not in routine practice then automatically truth disappears. Nowadays, practice of exchange of views/questions and answers is not in vogue, hence people are indulged in illusion. God has also inspired us to follow traditional path of observing Tark (exchange of views), failing which mostly people are only after materialistic articles, pomp and show etc.
Let us pay our attention towards Tark preached by God in Vedas. God in Rigved mandal 4, sukta 23, puts question that from whom should the students get education, to achieve progress, how gained knowledge be brought into practice and thus who becomes learned?
Answer- The aspirant who is desirous of gaining vedic education and spiritualism, while maintaining firm Brahmacharya (celibacy) should go to a learned Acharya, should serve him by mind, intellect, speech and actions while taking regular/fixed, balanced pious, vegetarian food and having ideal conduct.
You see, until we go through the preach, as quoted above, how a person can get above divine qualities and can achieve motto of the life?
Question- Oh! learned/King, when should the preach be given by you to your friends about their good deeds?
Answer- Everybody must establish friendship with a learned Acharya, who always follows truth, so that the learned preaches vedic knowledge to spread the best science everywhere, to give pleasure.
Based on Vedas, Rishi have also imparted vedic knowledge to the disciples, by putting forth questions to disciples, on the subject they preach. In this connection, discussion between Yaksha and Yudhishthir is famous given in Mahabharat epic.
Question By Yaksha:- What is the definition of pride, arrogance and back-biting?
Answer by Yudhishthir:- Deep ignorance is pride, to falsely show oneself as a great saint constitutes arrogance and to falsely blame others is back-biting.
Question By Yaksha:- Who is the man who bears sorrows?
Answer By Yudhishthir:- The man whose intellect is indulged in falsehood, illusion as regards Vedas, moral righteousness (dharma), Shastras, Devta, who is learned of Vedas and has realised God and about moral duties towards parents; does not donate being greedy, he bears sorrows.
Question By Yaksha:- Tell, what is gained by sweet speech?
Answer by Yudhishthir:- Such person becomes dear to everyone.
Question By Yaksha:- What is gained by a religious person?
Answer By Yudhishthir:- The religious person attains salvation.
According to Vedas, a person must get progress simultaneously in both the paths i.e. worldly and spiritual. Then only peace is maintained. One-sided progress is always harmful. (Atharvaved mantra 11/3/31 refers). I mean to say where in schools, colleges, universities etc. question papers are given to be replied by the students to get worldly success but the same is not applied in spiritualism, hence illusion.
That is why, true, vedic knowledge as cited above, is hidden at present. Instead self-made paths have taken place, leading to violence, blind-faith, hatred, vices etc.
