Establishing fiber optic network will improve telecom connectivity: Rathore

JAMMU, June 19: Kailash Rathore, an alumni of electrical engineering from IIT Roorkee, has recently assumed the charge of Executive Director, Northern Region Transmission System-II, Jammu of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Prior to joining NRTS-II, Rathore was serving as Whole Time Director in Teesta Valley Power Transmission Limited, a JV company of POWERGRID & Teesta Urja Limited.
Rathore’s association with POWERGRID starts from 1991. He also served for 7 years in NTPC. He feel happy to have contributed to various segments of power system which includes design and engineering of EHV AC Transmission System, Load Dispatch and Communication Projects, Domestic and International Consultancy Transmission Projects and Execution of DMS Projects; in various capacities.
“Central Government has recently transferred the prestigious 220 kV Srinagar-Leh Transmission System (SLTS) to POWERGRID, where 340-km long 220 kV transmission line is a vital link to connect Ladakh region with National Grid. SLTS project includes four numbers 220/66 kV Gas Insulated Substations at Drass, Kargil, Khaltsi and Leh”, Rathore said, adding that Northern Region Transmission System-II is entrusted with operation and maintenance of transmission assets, new projects and various consultancy works (under PMDP, DDUGJY and RGGVY Schemes) in the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, UT of Jammu and Kashmir and UT Ladakh. Our team is leaving no stone unturned to ensure smooth operations and stability of power scenario in the region, he stated.
He informed that POWERGRID is establishing fiber optic network of about 2200 kilometres in UTs of J&K and Ladakh region, which will substantially improve telecom connectivity.
