Addressing a press conference, Mohammad Sharif, General Secretary, EPTWS said that the society is fighting for conferment of proprietary rights for which the Government constituted various commissions, but the issue remains unattended.
“After imposition of harsh and hard policies, the Society expressed its resentment and approached various quarters of previous and present Government, but nothing could be achieved”, he added.
He stated that present regime during general election in 2014 assured the society that proprietary rights will be given to the EP tenants and even MP Jugal Kishore Sharma in various meeting agreed that if he wins he will get it done, but till date nothing has been done, which is forcing the society members to launch agitation.
Sharif said that similarly Shamsher Singh Manhas MP Rajya Sabha on the behest of sitting MLA Jammu East assured the Society that he will plead this issue in the centre favouring the EP tenants, but he also failed to get the issue redressed.
“On April 1 this year, the working body of the Society accompanied by MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta held a meeting with then Revenue Minister and apprised him about the problems being faced by the tenants. The Minister said that the prevalent policies will be discussed after calling Custodian General Custodian and representatives of the Society within fortnight, which could not be materialized because of his pre-engagement”, Sharif informed.
Jyoti Vaid, President, EPTWS said that the department is receiving huge amount from the tenants of the houses, kholas, land and orchards, but spends nothing for the renovation and upgradation of houses of the poor tenants.
She warned that if their genuine demands of revocation and withdrawal of the operational policy of the Custodian Department is not accepted, the tenants will be forced to launch massive sgiataion and will stop the paying the rent to the department.
