Expert Appraisal Committee of Union Ministry of Environment and Forests has recommended environmental clearance to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’s Institute of Medical Excellence at Kakryal near the holy town of Katra. This was a major step to be taken in pushing the ambitious programme of the Shrine Board of installing 620-bed Multi Specialty Hospital, Medical College (Teaching Buildings), Nursing College, Patient and Attendant Amenities, Staff and Student Accommodation etc. Specific conditions laid by the Expert Committee include multi-tier parking system and dedicated helicopter service/ air ambulance helipads to be introduced to facilitate sick pilgrims. According to our information the Shrine Board is already seized of providing these facilities. Now the Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Shrine Board, will be making a personal visit to the site to ensure that the road connectivity to the Institute is satisfactory.
It is heartening that a mega project is launched by the Shrine Board and an excellent medical institute will be coming up which will not cater only to the needs of the people in this far-flung area but will be open for patients from other parts of the State as well for treatment. With establishing a Medical College and a Nursing College as part of the institute, medical services in the State will receive big boost. We are confident that once the work on the ground for this project starts, it will be completed within the time frame.
