JAMMU : Entire opposition including Peoples Democratic Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, National Panthers Party and Jammu State Morcha today staged walkout of the State Assembly over shortage of ration in their respective constituencies.
Shouting slogans, ‘Bhashan Nahi’,’Raashan Do’, the opposition members created uproar in the House and disrupted its proceedings.
The members protested in the well of the House and asserted that there is no sufficient ration in different parts of the state and people are facing shortage of ration. The Government has approved supply of ration on the basis of 2011 census but still the ratio is being supplied on 2001 census basis, said the members.
The opposition legislators, however, staged walkout from the Assembly.
Earlier, MLA Inderwal G M Saroori sought reply from the Government that whether the Centre while enacting Food Security Act has impressed upon the State Government to implement it in the State.
“National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 has been passed by the Central Government for its implementation in whole of the country including Jammu and Kashmir and the same is under the consideration of the State Government,” Vaqar Rasool, Minister in-charge CAPD in his reply said.
He further added that since the NFSA provides for coverage of 75 per cent of the rural and 50 per cent of the Urban population to receive subsidised food grains under targeted Public Distribution System in view of the recent trends in production and procurement of food grains.
“To ensure the timely implementation of NFSA 2013 in the state within the stipulated time and provide the ration as per census 2011, the CAPD Department has taken various steps,” said the minister. (AGENCIES)
