Entering The Unknown

Medhavi Bhatti
You know, sometimes I think the world runs on irony. For, often we forget how things can change in the blink of an eye. And what’s crazy is that we likely don’t even see it coming. We often are too busy looking up at the destination without bothering to look at the journey that there comes a point when we stumble and that is where life happens. It is not something that anyone can guess before it actually happens. Sometimes it throws things we can’t catch up with. That is where we end up doing things which never would have thought of doing; We end up going to places that were never on our bucket list to begin with; We end up with the most irritating people; We feel miserable at times at dawn and then end up laughing at our misery the next dusk. Perhaps, that is probably when we start rejoicing the journey and that is when we learn to embrace the randomness that life offers on its way.
What it comes down to is that entering the unknown is inevitable, yet beautiful. It’s true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it, but it’s also true that we don’t know what we have been missing until it arrives! Perhaps, one season you won’t get things you want, maybe instead you will be taken to things that you need and deserve. Perhaps the chances are that where the flow is taking you is actually where you belong! You may not see it today or tomorrow but the moment you’ll be absolutely perplexed and awed by how every little thing added up and brought you somewhere wonderful- or where you always wanted to be. You will be grateful that things didn’t work out the way you once wanted them to. You see our lives are not even close to what we thought would be like a year ago. How could we have known what was going to happen? How can anyone, when the very essence of life is uncertainty? Remember, it’s a journey, it’s not as neat as our shoulds and should nots would have us believe. It is bound to be messy.
At this point some are questioning life and life is questioning them in return, some are busy finding answers and life is answering them, some are thinking hard about the choices and life is giving them reasons to think. We all are heading up somewhere in the direction that remains mysterious but I assure you, entering into the unknown is how you expand the known.
It’s okay if things are not according to your plan, it’s okay not being able to succeed for a while. Believe me, it’s all okay, for it’s just a matter of time, just some missed opportunities and some setbacks and some disconnections in the way to reconnect you to the path exactly meant for you! It’s okay if things don’t make sense to you for a long time, it’s okay if you feel scared to let go of your plans for a moment. We all are struck inside a giant floating orb in the middle of nowhere. It’s okay to feel a little lost sometimes. But rest assured, eventually everything will fall into place. It always does! The world ends for us many times and then begins again the very next morning.
It’s okay to take some uncalculated risks sometimes; It’s okay even when they turn out unexpected. But I want you to know that while you exist, every movement, every moment matters; once you make a decision, all your actions work around the choice. There is no right or wrong decision per se, only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought, feeling and action you experience. Those bad choices might lead you to the best days of your life or might give you a lesson to learn for this journey. Some good choices might make you bold or might make you choose something entirely different. Tell me isn’t this exactly the way we all learn?
For the longest time we have been taught to make sense of our lives. But what I see is that there is no sense to be made, only a life to be lived well. There is no set purpose to fulfill, there are no checklists to be completed, but just a series of moments to breathe, love and live. It is just about learning to live for more, and not for perfection but for fullness: A life that goes beyond the shores, a life you should be proud of!
So, please, uncomplicate your schedule, slow down a little, take some unplanned journeys, take some risks, take a lot of them, for trust me it is not the guarantee but the possibility that keeps us moving. Take some breaks, fall sometimes, stand up harder, stand in the middle of nowhere and take deep breaths often and then again pursue this glorious depth and let it remind you every morning that you are far from finished yet. I promise, opening up your heart and being willing to embrace randomness, being willing to embrace your entrance into uncertainty and everything unimaginable will change your life in unheard of ways. So be ready to mix a little foolishness and a magic of trust with your prudence in proportions unknown, for, believe me, some crooked things look worse when straightened and some tangled knots make sense only when unraveled.
So, fellas in this ironic world, trust me, to get lost is to learn the way!
And tell me what can be more beautiful than that?
