Ensure strict compliance of industrial pollution control norms: DC

SAMBA, Oct 14: Taking serious view of various complaints regarding pollution caused by different Industrial Units, Deputy Commissioner, Samba Mubarak Singh has constituted a committee comprising of members from District Industries Centre (DIC) and District Pollution Control Board to monitor on day to day basis the functioning of Air Pollution Control Devices and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs).
The decision was taken at a meeting of the officers of Industries Department, Pollution Control Department and representatives of Pesticides Units functioning in the District.
DC Samba conveyed in unequivocal terms that no lapse on the part of unit holders will be accepted as this may cause serious damage to various crops in the adjoining areas besides creating health hazards. Moreover, it was decided that the analysis of soil samples of affected crops will be carried out, so as to ascertain the root cause of the problem.
The unit holders, on their part, assured that they will strictly enforce the Central Pollution Control Board Guidelines and extend all support and cooperation to the District Administration in the matter.
GM DIC Satish Sharma, District Officer, PCB Anil Sharma besides representatives of UPL Ltd., Insecticide India Ltd., Pioneer Pesticides, Anu Products Ltd. Shivalik Agro Ltd., AB Chemicals, Jai Shree Rasyan and Krishi Rasyan Ltd. participated in the meeting.
