KISTWAR, Jan 19: Expressing serious concern over the erratic power supply and scarcity of essential commodities including ration, hospital supplies and LPG in the Chenab region, senior Congress leader and MLA Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori has asked the administration to address the problems of the people especially who are braving biting cold in Kishtwar and Doda without power supply and ration.
In a press statement, Saroori said that the shortage of ration in hilly areas speaks volumes about the insensitivity and callousness of the authorities. He said there is shortage of ration especially rice, sugar and wheat/ flour in Government depots. He said the prevailing poor power supply has virtually left the life in Chenab valley out of gear and the people faced tremendous hardships due non- availability of ration, sugar, kerosene and LPG.
“Not only the freezing temperature but the unscheduled power cuts and inadequate supply of LPG cylinders has aggravated the situation further. The authorities seem hardly bothered about the problems faced by the common people in Chenab region,” the Congress leader remarked.
He further said that people are being devoid of basic amenities. The administration should ensure that people in these districts are not neglected and sufficient arrangements be made before a snowfall in the region.
Saroori also urged the Commissioner Secretary Health and Director Health Services Jammu to meet the hospital requirements and services for all specialty departments before the snowfall in this area. “With chilly winters, there is a surge in different diseases in hilly areas so the Government should also review its arrangements and take stock of supplies in hospitals especially in rural areas of district Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban,” Saroori maintained.
The Congress MLA also urged the J&K Governor N N Vohra to personally look into the matter about scarcity of essential supplies and meet the required stock of ration, fire wood and kerosene oil in district Doda and Kishtwar before on set of snowfall. He said there is immediate need for effective measures to bridge the gap between availability and consumption of electricity and set up a dependable power delivery system in the State.
