Ensure benefits of welfare schemes reach unorganised workers: Ganai

JAMMU, Mar 4: Advisor to Governor, Khursheed Ahmed Ganai today directed the officers of Labour Department to undertake concerted and sustained efforts for ensuring the benefits of various initiatives undertaken by the Government percolate to the workers in the unorganised sector.
The Advisor was addressing the officers of the Labour and Employment Department here today as a follow up on the issues flagged at the recent conference on the workers in the unorganised sector which was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of India here.
Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, Nirmal Sharma, Labour Commissioner, Vipra Behl, Secretary, Building Construction Board, Mureed Shah, Deputy Labour Commissioners of Jammu/Kashmir, Ankur Mahajan and Ghulam Rasool Kumar and other senior officers of the department were present.
The Advisor while expressing satisfaction over the constitution of the Board under Social Security Act- 2009 said it would go a long way in addressing the problems of the unorganised workers besides ensuring formulation of new schemes for their benefit. He impressed upon the officers to convene regular meetings of the Board so that cash compensation and assistance can be given to the eligible family members of the labours.
Mr Ganai also called for more efficient and transparent collection of Building Cess from all such organisations and contractors who are liable to pay the same under the Act. He further directed that the organisations falling under the purview of the Act and not paying the cess should be made to deposit the same.
The Advisor also reviewed the work done under various Central and State Acts and directed for organising seminars for creating awareness about the labour laws existing in state for the labour class.
Mr Ganai also directed the Labour Commissioner to create a dedicated MIS by virtue of which the working of the department and its sister organisations can be monitored and the necessary feedback obtained about the implementation of various Acts and the working of the department.
