Ensure all facilities to Pandits on Maha Shivratri: Veeri

SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Former Minister and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Abdul Rehman Veeri has appealed the Government to make all arrangements for the holy festival of Maha Shivratri for Kashmiri Pandits both in Jammu and Kashmir Valley.
In a statement issued here, today Veeri said Maha Shivratri being a sacred festival of Pandit brethren which they celebrate in a unique way from times immemorial and it has been a tradition in Kashmir that Government used to provide all facilities on the holy festival to people.
He said to keep the tradition alive the Government should make adequate arrangements of keeping available the walnuts, flowers, vegetables and other items including milk and milk products used during the holy festival and maintain a check on the black marketing etc. He said as the festival falls on February 28 and March 1 so Government should ensure round the clock power supply during these two days besides it should also ensure regular water supply to the people on the festival days.
He demanded that special stalls for walnuts, flowers and other items be installed in all Bastis where Kashmiri Pandits are putting up in Jammu especially in migrant camps as well as in some areas of Kashmir especially Srinagar city where from the people can purchase these items without any problem.
