JAMMU, Dec 11: At a function held at the Raj Bhavan here today, N.N. Vohra, Governor released a volume of Dogri Short Stories translated into English and two Comic Books in Dogri language. The book and two comics have been translated and published by the Dogri Sanstha Jammu with financial support from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
The Governor congratulated the Committee which had been set up by him in 2012 to oversee the translations of selected Dogri works into English and Hindi and to also undertake their publication, for the excellent work done by it.
Chaired by Dr. S.S. Bloeria this committee comprises Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai, Prof. Lalit Magotra, Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri, Prof. Shashi Pathania, Balwant Thakur as members.
The Governor observed that the publication of a volume of Dogri Short Stories translated into English will promote the Dogri language and make its literature known all over India and abroad. The Governor advised the Dogri Sanstha to explore the possibility of the volume of Short Stories, included in the University curricula and also seek to its widest possible distribution.
The volume of Dogri Short Stories has been translated into English by Suman Sharma and the cover page of the book has been designed by T.S. Batra. The authors whose short stories have been translated from Dogri to English include Krishna Prem, Chattrapal, N.D. Jamwal, Shiv Mehta, Raj Rahi, Inderjit Kesar, Chaman Arora, Nirmal Vikram, Dr. Om Goswami, Rajeshwar Raju, Chaman Panthi, Dr. Manoj, Shakunt Deepmala, Prof. Champa Sharma and Desh Bandhu Dogra Nutan.
Two Comic Books, which were also released, published on the format of Amar Chitra Katha Publications, are titled, ‘Pukhrooain Diyan Kahaniya’ translated by Shashi Pathania and ‘Dukhi Sher’ translated by Narinder Bhasin in Dogri language.
On this occasion Navin. K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Khaleed Bashir, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Cultural and Languages, Ravi Magotra, I/C Director, Radio Station, Jammu, Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board were also present.
