Encroachment of forest land

Sir,
Refer news item ‘ Lal Singh for demarcation of forest land to curb encroachment’ DE Oct 24. There is an urgent need to demarcate forest land to preserve it for coming generations. Otherwise, it will fall in the hands of land mafia who is very active in the State. Already large chunks of land, as reported, has been encroached in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. In Jammu Bathindi, Sidhra and Channi, land mafia has encroached upon   forest land, and it is becoming  difficult for the administration to get it free, because people have raised homes and commercial structures on it.
Not only land, the Government has to protect forests which are depleting at a rapid speed. Forest wealth is quite important for our survival. Forests remain a source of  medicinal plants, wild life and other items. These forests are quite essential at a time when environment around us is getting polluted. Climate change is slowly affecting our lives, and will produce disastrous consequences.
As has   been noticed that large unauthorised colonies are coming up at these places. Since these colonies are not planned, it gets quite difficult for administration to provide basic amenities to people living there. With the result, people face numerous problems. At times it leads to protests and consequent clashes with administration. To avoid such gory incident, it is essential that no unauthorised colony is set up at this illegally occupied land.
Yours etc….
