Srinagar : A fierce encounter ensued between security forces and a militant, who has been trapped inside a house in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said here today.
They said on specific intelligence input about presence of a militant in the area, a joint team of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation in Sofihamam in Sopore. When security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militant hiding there opened fire at them with an automatic weapon. Security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
Reinforcement was rushed to the area to further tighten the cordon, they said. (Agencies)
