BARAMULLA : A fierce encounter ensued between militants holed up in a house and security forces on Thursday during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Kreeri Pattan in this north Kashmir district, official sources said.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Kreeri Pattan early this morning. All the exit points were sealed and house to house search launched, they said.
However, when the security forces were heading towards a particular area in the village, the militants hiding in a house opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter, they said.
The encounter was going on when the reports last came in. Two to three militants are reportedly holed up in the area, they added. Additional security force and state police personnel have been deployed in the nearby houses to prevent people from disrupting the operation. (AGENCIES)
