SRINAGAR: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Pampore in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Thursday, official sources said this evening.
They said on a tip-off, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation following an intelligence input about the presence of militants at Meeg, Pampore Thursday evening. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants opened fire. The fire was returned ensuing in an encounter, they said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in. Further details are awaited, they added. (AGENCIES)
