SRINAGAR: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Monday afternoon, a police spokesman said.
He said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a CASO at village Melhora in Shopian this afternoon following a tip off about the presence of militants. However, an encounter ensued after security forces were fired upon by militants when they were moving towards a particular area in the village, he said adding troops also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the adjacent areas to prevent any untoward incident, he said adding further details are awaited. (AGENCIES)
