Helicopters, drones pressed into service

JAMMU, May 23: Security forces today established contact with a group of suspected two to three terrorists at Dorimal in Gambhir Mugalan area of Rajouri district.

The search operation was on when the reports last came in.
Helicopter, drones and other surveillance equipments are being used by the troops of Romeo Force, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), SOG and police to eliminate the terrorists, who are believed to be two-three in numbers.

The terrorists are stated to be Pakistanis and the group has been active in parts of Rajouri district for past some days.
“Today at around 11.30 AM, contact was established with terrorists in the general area of Gambhir Mughlan in Rajouri during an intelligence-based joint operation conducted along with Police and CRPF,” the White Knight Corps said on X.
It said that troops responded swiftly with calibrated action. “A firefight ensued, and a cordon has been effectively established. Operations, named ‘Op Sheruwali’, remain underway,” it said.
According to officials, the cordon-and-search operation was launched in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghala belt following inputs about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area.
A joint team of the police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area and launched extensive searches, they said.
Additional reinforcements have been deployed to the scene, and the operation was continuing when reports last came in, officials informed.
Security forces have maintained cordon in the area during the night to ensure that the terrorists don’t manage to escape taking cover of darkness.
Movement of the same group of terrorists had earlier also been observed in the area but they remained untraced.
Security forces expressed confidence that the terrorists will be tracked down shortly as their movement is being watched using various kinds of sophisticated surveillance systems.
The terrorists are also reported to be in possession of Carbines, rifles, explosives and other significant material.
Besides security forces, the sources said, local people are also keeping strict surveillance on movement of the terrorists.
