Employees stage protest, seek redressal of demands

JAMMU, June 9: The State employees under the banner of Govt Employees Joint Action Committee (GEJAC) held protest demonstration at all the district headquarters and offices in support of their pending demands today.
With the protest programme of GEJAC, the normal work in many offices was affected as employees remained involved in the agitational programme today.
In Jammu the protest programme was held at Exhibition Ground near Press Club under the leadership of senior trade unionists and employees’ leaders Shushil Sudan, Subash Verma, Mohd Farooq and Suresh Sharma.
While addressing gathering, they said that Government has failed to honour its commitment and solve pending issues of the employees. The employees have been forced to go on agitational path. They further pointed out that State Government has proved as anti-worker because despite several representations and even agreements reached, it failed to address the pending demands of the employees. They said the Government must withdraw the conditions for arrears diverted to GP Fund. The pending arrears of 6th Pay Commissions be released without any delay. The Government should provide Pay Commission benefits to all the PSU workers, a decision of daily rated/ consolidated workers should be taken, pay anomalies be removed and retirement age be enhanced from 58 to 60 years. They also urged the Government to frame clear policy for the Anganwadi and Asha workers’ regularisation.
At Srinagar, the protest was held by employees under the leadership of Shabir Lingu and Taslima Subhan outside DC office.
Reports of similar protests have also been received from Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar.
