JAMMU, Jan 18: An emergency meeting of Water Works (PHE) Employees Association Jammu was held here today at Narwal under the chairmanship of Shiv Kumar Sharma, the State president of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), who is also Provincial president of the association.
In the meeting, hardships being faced by the workers and their demands were highlighted.
While addressing the meeting, Shiv Kumar Sharma expressed his concern over the long pending wages of Daily Wagers/CP/ Need Base Workers and said that they should be paid regularly. He alleged that the wages to lower levels employees were being paid on the wish and will of the officers. In some cases the employees did not receive their wages for the last 36 months but on the same time some others are getting regularly, he added and demanded that arrears and the wages as per new rate Rs 225 per day be paid to the employees immediately.
Shiv Kumar further said that due to the regular strikes of the daily wagers, the work load on permanent employees has been increased and they were doing 24 hours duty in cold weather. “There is no charcoal or any heating arrangement facilities for them, especially those performing duty in snow bound areas, besides they have not been provided raincoats torches etc,” he said adding that the employees were performing their duties on the risk of their lives.
Sharma also drew attention of the Government towards many more issues such as regularization of Daily Wagers/CP Workers, enhancement of medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000, DPC for all cadres twice in a year etc.
The others, who participated and spoke in the meeting, included Balbadar Raj, Ajay Sharma, Raman Kumar, Ram Pal Saini, Bahadur Singh, Mangal Dass, Sham Lal, Kishore Singh, Hans Raj, Beerbal Sharma, Dev Raj, Sat Pal Singh, Jagdish Singh, Varun, Joginder Paul, Mohit, Jyoti Sharma, Sham Lal Digra, Naresh Kumar, Swarn Singh and Surinder Kumar.
