Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘J&K continues slack approach on electrification of schools’ DE Oct 10.
One of the causes of poor performance of Government schools in the State particularly located in hinterland is absence of electricity. At a time when schools in big and small towns of the country have started smart classes to provide quality education to student community, schools in J&K do not have computer sets.
Computer education is non-existent in schools located in rural areas. This is primarily due to lack of electricity in these schools. The Education Department is least bothered to provide electricity to schools for reasons best known to it. One wonders how teachers could teach students, run TV sets, computers and other gadgets without electricity.
Students in rural areas are far behind their classmates in urban areas when it comes to compete in exams. Generally, it is urban lot which qualifies competitive exams. The sole reason being students in cities have more facilities in schools. The Government must ensure that schools in rural areas have electricity so that teachers could provide quality education.
Yours etc….
