Electrical employees stage protest demonstration

JAMMU, Nov 12: Electrical employees held protest demonstration in the office premises of Chief Engineer JPDCL Canal Road here today.
The employees of the Power Development Department/JPDCL, under the banner of J&K Central Non-Gazetted Electrical Employees Union assembled in the office complex of Chief Engineer, JPDCL here today and launched strong protest demonstration. The employees were shouting slogans in favour of their demands.
Several senior leaders including Gurnam Singh Salathia, Surjeet Khajuria, Raj Kumar, Kiran Paul, Pardeep Singh and others were leading the protest. They pointed out that PDD was reorganized in 1981 and that too, up to 60 % requirement. Since then, huge infrastructure expansion has been witnessed in the department. Many Grid stations/ Power received stations were established but no proper man- power was provided by the Government. They demanded that all the daily rated workers be regularized and vacant posts be filled up in the department.
They alleged that there was severe shortage of staff at many places across Jammu providence in PDD but department did not bother to go for proper recruitment. Most of the stations are being run by temporary staff but they are not being paid regularly and moreover, their regularization is awaited since long.
They demanded conduct of DPC at SE Circle Jammu/ regularization of daily wagers, release of pending wages of 1320 PDL daily wagers, transfer of all power projects from NHPC to JKSPDC, reorganization of PDD, provide risk allowance to power workers and establishment of training centres in Jammu province.
