Continuing her election campaigning in South Kashmir for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency, Mufti while addressing a gathering at Seer Hamadan, said that the identity of people was in danger and that the Government is aiming to snatch everything from J&K.
“As of now, J&K has the highest rate of unemployment; our identity is in danger. They want to snatch everything from us, and we will make sure that we speak for the people. We are not dead because the dead belong to the graveyard, and those who are alive speak,” she said.
The PDP President told people that she has been speaking for the people of J&K for the last 5 years, raising issues faced by the people and wanting that voice to grow stronger.
“I have come to tell you today that I have been speaking for five years, but it will be stronger when I have your support behind me,” she said.
Referring to the time when Mufti Muhammad Sayeed was the Chief Minister, Mehbooba said that then, Kashmir faced different issues, “but now we are facing a different monster; thousands are in jails, they are suffering, and nobody is speaking about them, apart from other issues; you have to speak against these excesses.”
Mufti urged people not to resort to “election boycott” this time, rather come out and vote in huge numbers for a greater cause.
“I belong to this place, I have my home and my maternal home here. You must not boycott this time and should rather cast your vote, the way you have come out for voting earlier, the same needs to be done this time.”
Later, while talking to media persons, Mufti reiterated the importance of the Lok Sabha elections and said that if elected, she will also address the basic issues faced by people.
“I told people that today’s election is not about roads, water, or electricity; rather, it is about safeguarding the identity and resources of J&K. I have also told them that I will also address their basic civic issues; the response of the people has been immense because I, along with my father, have worked immensely in this area,” she said.
