JAMMU, Sept 5: People of Ekta Vihar of Ward number 56, Gangyal today staged a protest demonstration for failure of the JMC to ensure regular sweeping and cleaning of the streets and lanes.
Today, the local people spent their money and called laborers from outside to clean the streets. Thereafter, they demonstrated against the Corporation and the local councilor. Former Chairman of JMC and senior Congress leader Satish Kumar Sharma, who reached the spot, said the rainy season is going on and the country is already fighting an epidemic like corona, in this situation if city is not cleaned regularly, dengue can spread but despite this JMC is in deep slumber.
He said that there are more than 25 sanitation workers in Ward number 56 (Gangyal) besides one supervisor and three overseer who have the responsibility of making the cleanliness system right, but despite this, the people of the Ward are bound to call laborers from outside by paying money and get the streets clean. He said that the situation is such that the Sanitary Inspector of the Ward does not pick up anyone’s phone, nor has he ever been seen in the streets of the Ward, then how the cleanliness system will improve. He alleged that work is being done under pick and choose in Ward 56.
Satish warned the JMC of strong protest and blocking of highway if all the streets and localities of Ekta Vihar (Gangyal) are not cleaned to kill the mosquitoes.  Among the protesters were Joginder Singh, Arvinder Singh Mikki, Lucky Singh, Deep Singh, Hardeep Singh, Simran Jeet Singh, Ramanpreet Singh and Ujjwal Sharma.
