Viraj Kala Kendra brings laurels to UT of J&K

JAMMU, Dec 21: Viraj Kala Kendra Jammu has brought laurels to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by bagging ‘Best Stage Play’ award for the play ‘Ek Panna Gumnaam’ at 6th Shahjahanpur Rang Mahotsav, which was organized in the memory of Shaheed Ashfaq-Ullah Khan, Ram Parsad Bismil and Thakur Roshan Singh at Gandhi Auditorium, Shahjah-anpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The ‘Best Playwright’ award was bagged by Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, while the ‘Best Male Actor’ award was clinched by Balwinder Singh for his role of Ashfaq-Ullah Khan and the 2nd Best Supporting award was bagged by Janak Khajuria for his role of Riyasat Ullah Khan-elder brother of Ashfaq-Ullah Khan.
There were total 19 plays in the festival from different parts of the country participating in this festival and Viraj Kala Kendra emerged as winner by grabbing ‘Best Play’ award, which was presented by Bollywood Actor Rajpal Yadav and Ashfaq-Ullah Khan (Grandson of brother of Shaheed Ashfaq-Ullah Khan).
In the jury, renowned names of the NSD and theatre personalities were there.
The play was based on the life, history, ideals and struggle for freedom of freedom fighter Ashfaq-Ullah Khan. Hindu-Muslim unit was shown through the eternal friendship of Ashfaq-Ullah Khan and Ram Parsad Bismil. The play was in Hindustani language and reminded the great Kakori conspiracy by the great freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives for Mother India.
The play was written and directed by Rajneesh Kumar Gupta.
The team included Madan Rangila, Janak Khajuria, Lalita, Tajasvi, Balwinder Singh, Vipan Gupta, Abhinav, Tarun Charak, Rishabh Manhas, Aafaq Khan and Harshdev Singh Slathia. The make up was done by Dr Kamal Kishore Sharma.
Director of the play expressed gratitude to SK Sharma, Additional Commiss-ioner Income Tax J&K and Raj Bharti, President of Viraj Kala Kendra for their support from time to time.
