MENDHAR, June 22: Eight shops and five rooms belonging to one Munshi Khan, son of Fateh Mohammed of Nar Mendhar at Totawali Gali in Mendhar gutted in devastating fire during late last night.
During the incident Munshi was not in the shop and had gone to his other residence. The shopping complex housed ration and K Oil depot, Kiryana and mobile stores etc.
According to reports the panic gripped entire Totawali Gali and surrounding villages after the seven gas cylinders kept in the shops blasted in the fire. The army sounded an alert and Troops of Territorial Army located near Totawali Gali under Romeo Force rushed to the spot for rescue operations.
Soon the jawans of fire and Emergency Services from Fire Sub Station Mendhar led by in charge Mohammed Ayub Khan and another fire service van from Surnakote Sub Station reached the area and engaged in fire fighting operations along with Army jawans.
Meantime police party led by BG Police Post in charge along with Naib Tehsildar also reached the spot for rescue operations.
According to reports mobile phones worth Rs 2.50 lakh and drafts and cash amounting to Rs 2.50 lakh were also completely destroyed in the devastating fire in one of the mobile stores in the shopping complex. Besides two trucks of CAPD rice and 8 drums of K Oil were also engulfed in the fire.
However the Army and Fire services jawans rescued Mir Hussian who was sleeping in adjoining shops and also saved his goods and three shops.
Early in the morning SDPO Mendhar Amit Bhasin and SDM Mendhar also reached the spot to assess the situation.
The Army and fire services jawans also faced a tough time in fighting the fire and restraining it from engulfing the nearby dry bushes of jungle.
Munshi Khan alleging sabotage has demanded a judicial probe into the fire incident. Meanwhile the PDP leaders Nadim Khan and Ehasn Akram Khan have demanded compensation for the Munshi Khan who suffered a heavy loss in the fire.
