SRINAGAR : About a dozen of devotees were injured in a grenade blast in the compound of a mosque this morning in south Kashmir district of Shopian.
However, a major tragedy was averted when a live grenade was defused without causing any damage in the district. They said a live grenade was found in the compound of a mosque at village Trenzgam in Shopian when devotees were leaving for their homes after offering Fajr (morning) prayers.
However, the grenade exploded after some of the devotees reportedly fiddle it with a stick from a distance.
About a dozen devotees were injured in the blast, sound of which was heard in the entire village and people rushed out of their homes in panic towards the mosque.
The injured were shifted to District Hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.
Sources said another live grenade was found near a house at nearby village Pehlipora. However, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the grenade was defused without causing any damage.
