SRINAGAR/ JAMMU : Eid-ul-Azha was today celebrated across the Kashmir valley and winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir with religious fervour and gaiety.
People offered special Eid prayers in Eidgahs, shrine, Jamia Masjids and other religious places.
However, the main congregations was held at Hazratbal shrine on the bank of famed Dal Lake, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad, where lakhs of people joined the Eid prayers.
Similar prayers were also held at historic Jamia Masjid in the Shehar-e-Khas, Jehab Sahib Soura, Shehrai Kalashpora, Hazrat Mehboobu-ul-Alam shrine on Kohi-e-Maran hills, where a Hindu temple and Gurdwara are also located.
Eid prayers were also held at the shrine of Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, Dastigeer Sahib Khanyar and Sarai Bala, Hazrat Sheikh Nooruddin Wali Charar-e-Sharief, Sheikh Dawood Batmaloo, Zainashah Sahib Ash.Muqam and Syed Yaqoob Sarfi Sonawar.
Reports of offering Eid prayers were also coming from other parts of the valley.
Children in colourful dresses seen visiting parks and other places, bursting crackers.
Lakhs of sheeps and goats were sacrified on the occasion.
Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and leaders of other mainstream political parties and separatist organisations have greeted people on the occasion.
The Festival of Eid-uld-Azha was today celebrated with fervour in this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Members of Muslim community offered prayers for peace and harmony across the region in the festival.
The main function was held at Idgah and Jamia Masjid where thousands of Muslims offered prayers.
The members of Hindu Community also greeted their Muslim brothers on the occasion.
Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Planning Ajay Sadhotra, BJP MLA Jammu Ashok Khajuria, National Conference Provincial president Devinder Singh Rana visited the Idgah and extended wishes.
Meanwhile, meat and bakery shops witnessed heavy rush of people while children attired in colouful dresses asked for ‘Eidi’ from the family members.
At Malik Market, Minister for Horticulture and Floriculture Raman Bhalla wished Muslims on Eid.
Lakhs of sheeps and goats were sacrificed on the occasion.
Tight security arrangements were made at all the venues for smooth and incident free celebrations.
However, no sweets were exchanged this year on Eid on the Line of Control between India and Pakistan due to the prevailing tension on the border.
