Eid-ul-Azha celebrated with  religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Sept 25: Like other parts of the country, Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated across Jammu region with religious fervour and gaiety today.

In Jammu city the Eid prayers were held at various Eidgahs and mosques. but the main Eid prayer was held at Eidgah Residency road here where a large number of Muslims drawn from different parts of city and outskirts took part in special Eid prayers this morning.

Attired in white dresses, the members of Muslim community hugged and offered Eid greetings to each other on the occasion of Eid ul-Azha.

Special Eid prayers were held in other Eidgahs and mosques of the city and its outskirts by the members of Muslim community.

Eid prayers were held at Khatikan Talab mosque, Ustad Mohalla Mosque, Peer Mitha Imambara, Sidhra, Bhathindi, Chowadhi and other places by the members of Muslim community.

They were greeted by their Hindu and Sikh brethren on the occasion. The elders were seen giving Eidi (a special tiff) to children. The children attired in white dresses were busy in purchasing toys, kites and eatables.

The markets wore a festive look on the occasion. Eid was also celebrated at District Jail Jammu by the jail inmates with zest and zeal. The inmates exchanged greetings with each other on the occasion. The greetings were extended to the inmates of jail on behalf of Director General of Police, prisons by Jail Superintendent Harish Kotwal. The sweets were distributed among them besides Bara Khana was also arranged under the guidance of DGP.

The New Young Blood Organization celebrated Eid at Old-age Home Ambphalla under the leadership of Ashok Verma its chairman. On the occasion special food and sweets were distributed among the inmates of Ashram and orphanage.

At Kathua hundreds of Muslims participated in Eid prayers held at Eidgah of the town while special prayers on the occasion were held at Bani, Billawar and Basohli by the members of Muslim community.

Reports coming from Poonch said thousands of Sunni Muslims participated in special Eid Pryers at Eidgah while a large number of Muslims belonging to Shia Sect offered prayers at Imambada Poonch on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Officiating Brigadier Commander Vikas Leekra also participated in an Eid function held near LoC on the occasion and greeted the people.

At Poonch Eidgah, Deputy Chairman Legislative Council, Jhangir Mir, MLA Poonch, Shah Mohammad Tantray were among prominent people who offered Eid prayers.  The entire Poonch market which was fully decorated on the occasion wore a festive look with members of Hindu and Sikh communities were seen greeting their Muslim brethren.

Thousands of Muslims offered special Eid prayers at Eidgah Rajouri also. The markets of the town were also fully decorated befitting the occasion. The J&K police had installed stalls of water and fruit to be offered the people.

Eid prayers were held in Eidgahs and mosques in Budhal, Kote Ranka, Darhal, Thannamandi, Surankote and Kalakote.

At Mendhar a large number of Muslims offered Eid prayers at Jama Masjid Mendhar and Jama Masjid Harni respectively.

A large number of Muslims offered Eid prayers at Eidgah Bhaderwah, Eidgah Chabutra Bazar, Udhampur and  Adarsh Colony Udhampur. The Minister of State for Information Technology and Finance, Pawan Gupta along with prominent citizens of Udhampur greeted the Muslims in the town.

At Kishtwar large number of Muslims offered Eid Namaz at Eidgah Kishtwar.

At Kishtwar Eid was celebrated peacefully after a long time as no incident was reported from any where due to the efforts of police and district administration. The people of the Kishtwar town also cooperated fully with administration in maintaining peace and communal amity on the occasion.

At Ramban and Banihal thousands of Muslims offered Eid prayers at Jama Masjid Ramban and Jama Masjid Banihal. The markets in both the towns were fully decorated befitting the occasion.

Eid was celebrated in Reasi and Samba districts also with religious fervour and gaiety.
